    The rules

The first squad cost ratio test

The League tests every club against the 85% green threshold and its red threshold, which is 115% for every club this season. At or below 85%: compliant. Above 115%: a points deduction of six points plus one for every £6.5m over, once any dispute window has passed. Between the two: no points and, this season only, no levy, but the club is tested again on its accounts and its allowance above 85% can be cut for next season.

Provisional 2026/27 accounts due to the League

Clubs submit provisional accounts for the season just ended. For any club above 85% on 1 March, these drive the Accounts Confirmation Test, which sets how much of its allowance above 85% the club keeps for 2027/28 (no levy is charged for 2026/27). Clubs still in a UEFA competition on 31 May file five working days after it ends; promoted clubs by 30 June.

Accounts deadlines are the latest date the law allows, nine months after each club's year end; many clubs file earlier, and a club can change its year end. The League's own deadlines are for submissions to the League, which are not published. Rule references are to the Premier League Handbook 2026/27, Appendix 2. The figures each date tests are on the club pages; how each forecast has held up is on the track record.
